Funny Images of Modi and Kalaignar
CLAIM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video of him picking up trash on a beach in Tamil Nadu's Mamallapuram, sending across a strong message to the nation about the importance of keeping surroundings clean, and highlighting the Swacch Bharat Mission, an ambitious initiative of the Modi government towards a cleaner India.
Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my 'collection'… https://t.co/WkkhE6Iy4j

Soon after the video went viral and made headlines, many social media users shared old, unrelated photos, one showing a crew shooting on a beach and another showing a bomb squad scanning an area on a beach, along with the photos of PM Modi plogging on the beach, to imply that the entire exercise was staged.
Congress MP from Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga and former Union Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram, too, tweeted three photos saying, "Jai Shree Ram". The first photo showed a crew shooting on a beach, the second photo showed Modi picking up trash on a beach, and the third was a photo of Modi with the trash he collected from the beach.

The first photo Karti tweeted is being shared by many social media users claiming that Modi's plogging exercise was staged. For instance:
Facebook user 'Kunal Sharma' shared the photo with a caption saying, "One section of the crew of 25, to film Modi's beach cleaning nautanki (drama)..."
The same photo was tweeted by Supreme Court lawyer and Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa, with more or less the same caption.
This is one section of the 25 member crew that shot PM Modi cleaning the five star beach this morning. Good job guy… https://t.co/0cYi6zpRxX

A Times Fact Check reader got in touch with us via email with a collage, which had both the images above, asking if the exercise was staged.
We found the same four photos shared with the same captions on Twitter by a user who goes by the handle '@i_theindian'.

TRUTH
The two images used to claim that PM Modi plogging on the beach was completely staged are old and unrelated to the incident.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Image 1
In the replies to Karti's tweet, we saw that many alert Twitter users had pointed out the original source of the image, a website called tayscreen.com.
On the website, we found the image above used on a slider, and a very similar image used on a page within the website.

As per the website, these images were clicked in 2012. Clearly, these photos have nothing to do with Modi plogging on a beach in Mamallapuram. There is no information on the website about the place this photo was clicked at.
Times Fact Check reached out to TayScreen, Scotland, a regional government film office in Scotland to know where the image was clicked at. In a written response to Times Fact Check, the organisation said, "This picture is a crew shot for a TV production at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, UK."

A simple reverse-image search on Google led us to the original source of the image - a report published in The Hindu on April 11, 2019.
The image is captioned, "High vigil: Bomb squad inspecting Kozhikode beach, the venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public event, on Wednesday."
This proves that the photo is from April this year, and from Kerala's Kozhikode. Hence, it has nothing to do with Modi plogging on a beach in Tamil Nadu.
VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that old, unrelated images are being shared along with photos of PM Modi plogging on a beach in Mamallapuram to imply that the entire exercise was staged.
